❓ FAQ
What is Firecrawl? Firecrawl is a web crawling and scraping API that lets you scan websites for specific content. IndustryHub uses it to search for unauthorized copies of your content across the web. You bring your own API key — your searches stay private and you control your usage.
1

Create a Firecrawl Account

Go to firecrawl.dev and sign up for an account. There is a free tier available. Choose a plan based on how many scans you plan to run — each search query uses API credits.

2

Get Your API Key

After logging in, go to your dashboard and find the API Keys section. Create a new key and copy it. Your key starts with fc-. Keep it private — treat it like a password. Do not share it with anyone.

3

Connect Your Key to IndustryHub

Click API Settings in the top bar or click the API status area in the sidebar. Paste your Firecrawl API key. Your key is stored locally in your browser only — it is never sent to IndustryHub servers.

4

Build Your Takedown Template

Before running your first scan, go to the Build Takedown Notice section and fill in your legal name, email, and content descriptions. This creates a reusable template so you can quickly build notices after each scan.

5

Run Your First Scan

Go to Scan for Infringement. Enter your creator handle, unique content identifiers, and exclude your own platforms. Hit scan. Results will appear ranked by match confidence. Review each one before taking action.

6

Send Notices & Track Results

For each confirmed infringement, generate a notice from your template, then send it manually to the platform's DMCA contact (see the "Where to Send" tab). Log every notice in the Tracker and update status as platforms respond.

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) is a U.S. law that provides a process for copyright holders to request that infringing content be removed from online platforms. Even if you're not in the U.S., DMCA notices are widely accepted globally because most platforms comply with them.
1

What qualifies as infringement?

If someone reposts, mirrors, re-uploads, or shares your original content (photos, videos, audio) without your permission, that is copyright infringement. This includes screenshots, clips, and edited versions that are clearly derived from your work.

2

What does a DMCA notice require?

A valid notice must include: your identity and contact info, a description of your original copyrighted work, the exact URL(s) of the infringing content, a good faith statement, a statement of accuracy, and your signature (typed is fine). Missing elements can invalidate your notice.

3

What happens after you submit?

The platform's designated DMCA agent reviews your notice. If valid, they must remove or disable access to the content promptly. The uploader may file a counter-notice. If they do, you have 10-14 business days to file suit before the platform restores the content.

4

Does copyright registration matter?

You own copyright in your original work the moment you create it — no registration needed to file a DMCA notice. However, registering with the U.S. Copyright Office gives you the right to sue for statutory damages, which is a significant legal advantage.

✅ Do's

  • Only file notices for content you own and created yourself
  • Include the exact URL of the infringing content, not just the homepage
  • Exclude your own platforms from scans to avoid false positives
  • Keep records of every notice you send — save a copy and timestamp it
  • Update your tracker promptly when platforms respond
  • Use a consistent legal name across all notices
  • Give platforms a reasonable time to respond (usually 5–14 business days)
  • Consider registering your copyright for extra legal protection
  • Watermark your content so infringement is easier to prove
  • Consult a lawyer if content is commercially re-sold or counter-noticed

❌ Don'ts

  • Don't file notices for content you don't own — this is illegal
  • Don't submit vague notices without specific URLs
  • Don't harass or contact uploaders directly — go through the platform
  • Don't submit false information — it's perjury
  • Don't use the DMCA to suppress criticism, parody, or news coverage
  • Don't auto-send notices without reviewing them — accuracy is critical
  • Don't ignore counter-notices — respond within the legal window
  • Don't share your Firecrawl API key with anyone
  • Don't rely only on DMCA — watermark proactively too
  • Don't panic if a notice is rejected — refine and resubmit correctly
⚠ False DMCA Claims: Filing a knowingly false DMCA notice exposes you to lawsuits under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), which allows the accused party to recover damages and attorneys' fees. Always be certain you own the content before filing.
How to find DMCA contacts: Every platform that hosts user content is required to register a DMCA agent with the U.S. Copyright Office. You can search the official directory at copyright.gov/dmca-directory. Most platforms also have a visible "Copyright" or "DMCA" link in their footer.

Pro tip: When emailing, use a clear subject line like: "DMCA Takedown Notice — [Your Name] — [Infringing URL]". Attach or paste your full notice. BCC yourself so you have a timestamped record.
?

What if my notice is ignored?

Wait the standard response window (typically 10–14 business days). If no response, send a follow-up citing your original notice date. If still ignored, you may have grounds to pursue legal action. Document everything.

?

What if someone files a counter-notice?

You'll be notified by the platform. You then have 10–14 business days to notify the platform that you have filed or intend to file a lawsuit. If you don't, the content may be restored. Consult an attorney if this happens.

?

Can I send notices anonymously?

You can hire an attorney or service to send on your behalf, keeping your personal info private. Anonymous notices on your own are generally not accepted — a valid notice requires your identity. Consider using a PO Box or attorney address.

?

Does this work outside the U.S.?

DMCA is a U.S. law but most global platforms comply because they have U.S. users or servers. For platforms in the EU, you can also reference the E-Commerce Directive or DSA. For other countries, local IP laws may apply — a local attorney can advise.

?

How many scans should I run per month?

It depends on your Firecrawl plan and how actively your content is pirated. Most creators run weekly scans. Set up a recurring reminder. The more specific your search terms, the fewer credits you'll use and the more accurate your results will be.
